What are extension springs?
Extension springs, like their name says, extend themselves when the door is closed. When you want the door to open they will contract and do the heavy lifting. They run parallel to the track and although they may come in pairs, they work independently form each other. In case they break, they can fly across the garage and cause damage, injury and even death. This is why they should be used along with safety cables which will contain their movement.
How can I tell whether my garage door is off balance?
Watch your door going up and down - it should move in a controlled manner; shouldn’t slam or shoot up. It also shouldn’t be tilted to either one side. When you operate the door manually, a well-balanced door should stay still when raised halfway. And finally, no matter how big or heavy a door you have, you should be able to lift it open by hand.
